The Alabama Stitch Book is awesome
Natalie "Alabama" Chanin has been one of my favorite American designers, ever since I discovered her in Vogue magazine. She was a finalist for a design award. I bought her book called "Alabama Stitch Book" over the weekend and it looks really good. I've always wondered how she got the fabric with the cool designs. She explains how to make some of her designer fabrics and clothing in your own home. There are actual stencils and paper sewing patterns included in the book. I can't wait to make some of the clothes. All photos are from www.alabamachanin.com.

Depression-era clothing styles
These wonderful photos from the United States depression era came from the following website:
http://blogs.denverpost.com/captured/2010/07/26/captured-america-in-color-from-1939-1943/2363//
These images, by photographers of the Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information, are some of the only color photographs taken of the effects of the Depression on America’s rural and small town populations. The photographs and captions are the property of the Library of Congress and were included in a 2006 exhibit Bound for Glory: America in Color.
