My fantasy hair

I always wish I had thick long luxurious hair instead of my actual hair which is extremely short, thin and fine. On the TV show Shear Genius, Wednesday nights at 10pm on Bravo network, the stylit were challenged to creat a hairstyle that used a lot of color. I wish I was in a rock band or something like that. If I did, I would like to have a wig like the top two looks shown here.

Project Runway Episode 3

Kenley won this week's challenge, which was to design a going-out outfit inspired by the sights of New York at night. Kenley is the cute girl who looks like a forties pinup doll. I love the colors of the dress but am not wild about the shape. I actually prefer Terry's pants suit, which was the second place outfit. I was not that impressed with most of the other dresses. Although I love the show, I think that some of the designers this season are somewhat irritating. There is one woman one always talks about how she only wants to design leather, rock-and-roll looks, and her voice sounds extremely whiny. Suade seems like a pleasant-enough chap, but I'm already tired of him talking about himself in the third person. It's already starting to seem like a gimmick. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next week.

New Eyeglasses?

Yesterday I went to Walmart to get an eye exam and found that my prescription has changed a bit. I'm trying to decide if I want to spend money on some new frames. I tried some on at Walmart, but they weren't up to my style standards, so I've been searching the internet for some frames I really like. The ones I like the best are from Christian Dior. These pictures are from bestbuyeyeglasses.com.

Great late summer/early fall work outfit.

Here's an outfit I really like at a price i can afford. I read that its from the new collsboration between Richard Chai and Target, and costs about $90 for the whole outfit. It's great to find an outfit I like at a price I am willing to pay. I hope that it will be available at Target.com, because I am not able to get to a Target that often.

Going back to school clothes from Vogue patterns

I live in a small, rural town in Appalachian Ohio where the shopping opportunities are pretty limited. I am also extremely long waisted and so I have trouble finding blouses and jackets that are long enough for me. Although I'm not a great sewer, I have started to sew more of my clothes because I have trouble finding the stuff I want in the stores. Here is a pattern from Vogue that is very similar to my typical work style. It looks pretty difficult, but it might be worth trying in order to get the look I want. The other problem is where to get the fabric I want!

Marie Lau Jewelry designs

Here is something really clever that I saw on the Style Bubble blog. Maria Lau is a UK based designer who uses really interesting and eclectic materials. I was inspired to try some of these myself. The pouf-y necklace out of pantyhose is really clever!

Project Runway's Second Episode

I love Project Runway. It has actually made me feel more excited about fashion. I think fashion should usually be fun and innovative, which it generally is on this show. The challenge last night was to design a cocktail dress for the models. The winner was a man called Suede, who likes to talk about himself in the third person, which seems to be a running joke on the show. He actually created his own new fabric by sewing red and white strips of fabric together in overlapping patterns. Many of the other designers' dresses were ill-fitting, but his was really cute. The challenge also involved using organic fabrics which is pretty cool.

Love this pure deal from Nine West

I can't believe how expensive purses are these days, especially if you want one made of real leather. I found one at Nine West that is on sale for about $70 and is real leather. It's also quite large and would go well with my clothes for fall. It actually looks somewhat similar to a new Ralph Lauren bag that I saw in a current fashion magazine, except that one had some animal print patterns on it.

I've actually been really low on cash, but I'm thinking it might be worth getting after payday!

Record Album purses

I have a friend who buys a lot of old record albums at auctions and flea markets and we have been talking about making purses out of record albums to sell. I have been working on several designs. Today I looked on the internet and I found that there are several designs available. I would like to try some of these. I.m wondering how some of these people cut into the actual records without shattering them?

T-shirts have great shape at Balenciaga Resort!

Here's a look that might be fun to try to recreate. These t-shirts are really interesting with their asymmetrical design.

Project Runway is back!

Well, Project Runway is back at 9pm on Wednesday nights on the Bravo channel. You can also get pictures and other highlights at www.bravotv.com. The new group of designers are very talented and most of the clothes were pretty cute. The first challenge was to make a dress from stuff bought in a grocery store. Most of the designers bought tableclothes and incorporated them into the design somewhere. The winner bought vacuum cleaner bags and coffee filters and hand dyed them to make the cute dress shown here.

Love this style from The Style Scout

I love this girl's look. The hair style is really artistic and the skirt looks new and hip with its shorter length and silver-button belt. I have an old pleated skirt from a thrift store that I am inspired to hem shorter and add some buckles and studs to make it look "in" for the fall season!

Dramatic false eyelashes from Shu Uemura

Even though I don't know where I would ever wear such a thing, I absolutely love the dramatic eye makeup that I've been seeing lately in the fashion magazines. Some of the greatest false eyelashes are made by Shu Uemura and are available in the US at www.shuuemura-usa.com. Here's some examples:

Julian Beever's 3D chalk pavement art

Check this out! I was talking to my cousin today and he asked if I had ever seen any 3D chalk art, and I said I'd never heard of it. We looked this up on the internet and I was totally amazed. This guy Beever is an English artist and draws these pictures on sidewalks, mostly in England and in Europe. There is also at least one film of him actually drawing on Youtube. In order to get the 3D effect, the pictures have to be viewed from just the right angle.

My new favorite fashion designer - Tsumori Chisato

I just dicovered a fashion designer that I absolutely love! Tsumori Chisato has some of the most original clothing I've seen lately. The fabrics appear to be hand painted with modern art style graphics in bright colors, and the shapes of the garments are also quite unusual. And check out the matching shoes! I've never seen anything like it! It looks like super really talented and beautiful aliens just landed from another planet. Check out these photos from her Spring 2008 collection that I got at elle.com.

Urban Outfitters has awesome graphic design tees

Check these out! I love graphic tees and wear them almost everyday.

Cool t-shirt graphic

It
I'm always on the lookout for fashions that I might be able to make at home and/or recreate at a lower price. Here's an easy idea. Buy a bright t-shirt and paint some bright comic book types words on it. Here's a guy from a street style website who has the look. It looks like something that might have been made by a great pop culture designer!

This design looks like it was airbrushed. If you are like me and you don't own an airbrush, you can sometimes create a similar effect by putting fabric paint in an old spray bottle.
