Irina wins Project Runway with her (Dominatrix?) collection

Usually, I agree at least somewhat with the judges decisions on Project Runway, but I'm a little disappointed in their choice of Irina as the winner. As I was watching her collection come down the runway, I was thinking things like:

"It's too dark"
"Its too severe"

I couldn't quite put my finger on it at first...
But then it occurred to me that a lot of the clothes looked like a DOMINATRIX costume.

Yes, the pieces were well made and had great detail.
But come on. I wouldn't want to wear something like this, and my tastes tend to be on the wild and edgy side.

I would have preferred to see Althea or Carol Hannah win. I thought they were both much nicer people anyway.

Project Runway: Kurto wins, Suede offed

Last night was a fun competition on Project Runway. The designers were each assigned to design an outfit for one of the other designers that was inspired by a music genre. The winning designer was Kurto, who designed the punk rock outfit modeled by Suede. Suede was eliminated because his design for Jerell was not considered to be very creative or exciting. I thought Kenley should have been eliminated. She designed an outfit for Leeann that was supposed to be hip hop, but it didn't look at all hip hop, and the pants were poorly fitted. I am somewhat sorry to see Suede go. I always thought he had such a pleasant personality.

Winner and loser from last night's Project Runway

Jerell wins on Project Runway

Last night Jerell designed the winning outfit on Project Runway. The assignment was to design an avant-garde outfit that represents an astrological sign. I can't remember what sign his outfit was supposed to represent and I can't even guess from looking at it. The winning design is shown above - the one with the long hounds-tooth skirt. It looks Edwardian without the huge flamboyant hat. I like the outfit, but I probably would not have chosen it as the winner. If it were up to me, I would probably have picked Leeann's design, the one with the black hood that draps down and around the dress. It was intended to represent the sign of scorpio. Two people were eliminated from the show - Blayne and Terri. I am a bit sorry to see both of them go. I liked some of the pantsuits that Terri designed on earlier episodes, even though she did not win. Blayne had a fun and lively personality, which I will miss. He designed a very strange outfit that looked like a one-sided clown participating in S&M. He said it was supposed to represent libra, but an unbalanced scale. What was he thinking?

Leeann wins Project Runway again!

The challenge last night was to design an outfit to be added to Diane Von Furstenberg's fall collection. Leeann won first place for the second time in a row with her blue gown with a jacket. Korto won second place with her long dress with a large graphic pattern and a jacket. Stella was eliminated and I would agree with the judges on this one. I thought Stella seemed to whiney and gloomy! I would agree that her outfit was poorly tailored and I did not care for the style of cape that she used. The judges said it reminded them of dracula's cape, and I would not totally disagree.

Project Runway Week 5

This week's Project Runway was really good. The challenge was to design something very innovative using automobile parts. Most of the designers used seatbelts for at least part of the designs, and most of them rose to the challenge. LeeAnn won her first challenge with the dress pictured here. Keith was eliminated. I wasn't too sorry because his designs were not the great and his personality was a little immature and nasty.

Project Runway Episode 5

I missed the first half of last nights show, but the second half is usually more interesting anyway. Their assignment was to design an outfit for Brooke Shield's character to wear on the TV show Lipstick jungle, and Brooke Shields was a guest judge. Here are photos of the first and second place outfits. The one with the floral top was the winner. If I was a judge, I probably would have given the other one first place and the floral top second.

Project Runway Episode 3

Kenley won this week's challenge, which was to design a going-out outfit inspired by the sights of New York at night. Kenley is the cute girl who looks like a forties pinup doll. I love the colors of the dress but am not wild about the shape. I actually prefer Terry's pants suit, which was the second place outfit. I was not that impressed with most of the other dresses. Although I love the show, I think that some of the designers this season are somewhat irritating. There is one woman one always talks about how she only wants to design leather, rock-and-roll looks, and her voice sounds extremely whiny. Suade seems like a pleasant-enough chap, but I'm already tired of him talking about himself in the third person. It's already starting to seem like a gimmick. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next week.

Project Runway's Second Episode

I love Project Runway. It has actually made me feel more excited about fashion. I think fashion should usually be fun and innovative, which it generally is on this show. The challenge last night was to design a cocktail dress for the models. The winner was a man called Suede, who likes to talk about himself in the third person, which seems to be a running joke on the show. He actually created his own new fabric by sewing red and white strips of fabric together in overlapping patterns. Many of the other designers' dresses were ill-fitting, but his was really cute. The challenge also involved using organic fabrics which is pretty cool.

Project Runway is back!

Well, Project Runway is back at 9pm on Wednesday nights on the Bravo channel. You can also get pictures and other highlights at www.bravotv.com. The new group of designers are very talented and most of the clothes were pretty cute. The first challenge was to make a dress from stuff bought in a grocery store. Most of the designers bought tableclothes and incorporated them into the design somewhere. The winner bought vacuum cleaner bags and coffee filters and hand dyed them to make the cute dress shown here.

Call for aspiring fashion illustrators at BravoTV

I see that Project Runway is going to be starting a new series on Bravo TV in July! YIPEEEEEEE!
I can't wait.

Are there any other Christian Siriano fans out there? In case you didn't watch the last season, he was the winner and quite a fun guy. There is a new article about Christian and his recent activities in the latest July issue of Elle magazine (US edition).

There is also an opportunity on the bravotv website for aspiring illustrators to display their work. Here's how it works. You go the website and retrieve some line drawings by Daniel, a former project runway contestant, and decorate them according to your own taste, then re-submit them. Sounds like fun! There are several sketches to choose from, but I have included one example here.
