Lumberjack style is big in England

According to the Style Scout, lumberjack cool is really in style in England. I saw a couple of his photos, and honestly, I don't get it. Usually I blog about stuff I like, but in this case I felt motivated to comment on a look that I don't like. If I tried this look I would probably look like an "uncool" lumberjack!

We actually have a local wood-chopping tournement here in Appalachia where I'm sure that there will be plenty of unstylish lumberjacks who are sporting this look! Any fashionistas interested in checking it out, let me know (just kidding).

Project Runway Week 5

This week's Project Runway was really good. The challenge was to design something very innovative using automobile parts. Most of the designers used seatbelts for at least part of the designs, and most of them rose to the challenge. LeeAnn won her first challenge with the dress pictured here. Keith was eliminated. I wasn't too sorry because his designs were not the great and his personality was a little immature and nasty.

Annie Briggs jackets at Etsy

Today I was looking at designs in the Fashion Derek site, and I saw these great jackets that are designed and made by Annie Briggs. Fashion Derek is a site where up-and-coming fashion designers can display their work. You can view and buy Annie Briggs jackets at her etcy shop at http://www.anniebriggs.etsy.com/. They all have great patterns and texture, and are very reasonable priced. I could hardly believe that most jackets are between $69 and $79!

Butterick patterns has smock tunic

In my previous post, I was trying to decide how I might make a folkloric style top. Today I saw that Butterick patterns has a top that could be embellished with embroidery and different patterned fabrics. Maybe I'll give it a try!

Folkloric hippy style

I like this 70's inspired look that I'm seeing in the fashion magazines. It usually involves a hippy dress, floppy hat, knee-length boots and a long furry vest. I've been thinking about how I might recreate the style for less. The bright blue outfit is from Anna Sui's fall ready to wear collection. I could probably knit or crochet a similar bright, furry vest. Making a similar dress is probably going to be more tricky. I might be able to get a similar look by sewing a brightly colored tunic, and sewing on lots of different embroidered braids. These looks also include lots of leather and fringe.
The photo on the bottom is a street fashion from the Style Scout.

Banana Republic has AWESOME necklaces

I saw one of these necklaces recently in a fashion magazine and was extremely surprized at the reasonable price ($79 - 190). I heard that they are going quickly and I can see why.

I have been admiring similar necklaces, but they usually have prices over a thousand dollars, and most of the imitations seem to look so cheap, but not these! By the way, these pictures do not do them justice.

Stitch and Bitch nation Knitting book

In the last couple of days I have been feeling the urge to take on a new knitting project and make something special for fall. I found this book Stitch and Bitch Nation and decided to buy it and try the pattern that has the British flag on the front. I wish I could show a picture of the sweater because it is AWESOME, but I couldn't find one on the internet. I also like the handmade fishnet stockings.

The patterns are very contemporary and seem to be inspired by punk and rock musicians. I highly recommend it for those of you knitters who like a more funky and youthful style.

I would love to have a Michael Kors suit

I wish I could afford a suit from Michael Kors' fall ready-to-wear collection. I'm already a big fan of him from his Project Runway appearances, but his fall suits are to die for!

The middle photo is particularly interesting to me, the way the jacket and stole are layered in such an interesting way. I wonder if I could recreate the look somehow.

I would really love to have some of the new style jackets in interesting shapes that we are seeing on the runways this season. I wish I was better at designing and making my own sewing patterns. Maybe I can find a similar pattern and alter it.

Easyfashion blog, Thailand street style

Check out the recent postings from Thailand on the Easyfashion blog. Photos taken by "Fred the mole" are adorable! There are some beautiful children in Thailand!

Project Runway Episode 5

I missed the first half of last nights show, but the second half is usually more interesting anyway. Their assignment was to design an outfit for Brooke Shield's character to wear on the TV show Lipstick jungle, and Brooke Shields was a guest judge. Here are photos of the first and second place outfits. The one with the floral top was the winner. If I was a judge, I probably would have given the other one first place and the floral top second.

The Gap is back!

I remember about 15 years ago when all my college students loved the Gap. However, in recent years, students said that Gap clothes had become boring and expensive. I would have to agree. But look at them now! The fall collection is wonderful and reasonably priced! They've even got that plaid look that Gucci is rocking right now. Hurray for designer Patrick Robinson for bringing back the Gap. By the way, if you don't know who Patrick is, check him out. Although he is in his forties, he is very handsome and young looking.

Love Gucci fall collection

Gucci's latest collection is similar to my typical style - sort of a sophisticated rocker chick in pants. Since I usually wear black pants, I would like to try mixing and matching plaids like they do, with non-traditional shapes. As usual, if i want something that looks like the fashion runways, I'll probably have to make it myself.

Where can I get opera length gloves?

I might look out of place in this small town, but I wouldn't mind trying some of those opera length gloves like I've been seeing in the fashion magazines. I noticed that Vogue patterns has some long gloves, so maybe I'll attempt to make some.

Looking to Thakoon for Fall inspiration

I've been thinking about trying to make some work clothes for fall, and I like Thakoon's fall collection. I'm not a great sew-er, but Maybe I could find some patterns and fabric to give me a similar look. I wonder where i could get a less-expensive-but-similar version of the shoes?

Layered cross necklaces

I've been looking for some big cross necklaces that look good layered and are moderately priced. This look was made famous by Madonna in the 1980s and seems to be making a comeback. One thing that I've have found is that layering necklaces in a way that looks stylish is harder than it looks!

Summer dresses with boots

I know some bloggers are getting excited about the fall fashions, but I want to make sure to enjoy the summer weather as much as possible while its still here. Here in Ohio, we usually have another month of summer-like weather. So, I decided that instead of thinking too much about fall fashions now, I think I might try something new. I've noticed some cute girls wearing summery dresses with boots, so I'm thinking about trying it out. I got some really cool cowboy boots from my aunt and I already have some great summery skirts. Here are some photos from the internet showing girls sporting this look.
