1HUND(RED) shoes are really cool!

What a great idea! For Converse' 100th anniversary, they are asking 100 artists around the world to design a shoe. All of the profits go to The Global Fund, which provides money to fight AIDS in Africa.

Their idea was to show how art and creativity can change the world.

After seeing sneakers worn with formal wear at the Grammy awards the other night, I have been thinking about how iconic sneakers have become, especially Converse and Chuck Taylors. I'm starting to wish that I could afford to collect all one hundred pairs!

Trendy Footwear from Converse

As I was surfing the net today for something interesting to blog about, I came across these sneakers. They are in the (Product) Red series, so some of the money goes to The Global Fund to fight AIDS and other diseases. They are even reasonably priced, about $50.

Craftzine handmade shoes

If you love shoes and crafts, the latest issue of craftzine is for you! They have some great instructions for making several kinds of shoes, including hand-knitted Converse chuck taylors. Some of the shoes require special tools, but others look fairly easy. I am thinking about trying to make a knitted pair like the ones in the picture. I am considering using a different kind of yarn though. They recommend using a cheap acrylic yarn, but that yarn often does not look very good after a couple of wears. I am not sure if cotton yarn is a good alternative because it stretches out too easily. Wool has natural elasticity, but is too warm for this time of year. I'm not sure what kind of fiber I'm going to use.
