Leeann wins Project Runway again!

The challenge last night was to design an outfit to be added to Diane Von Furstenberg's fall collection. Leeann won first place for the second time in a row with her blue gown with a jacket. Korto won second place with her long dress with a large graphic pattern and a jacket. Stella was eliminated and I would agree with the judges on this one. I thought Stella seemed to whiney and gloomy! I would agree that her outfit was poorly tailored and I did not care for the style of cape that she used. The judges said it reminded them of dracula's cape, and I would not totally disagree.

Check out the leg and footwear at Givenchy

Here's a truly original look from Givenchy's fall 2008 couture collection. It appears that they have large spats covering their feet and legs. I might like to try something like this but wonder about the practicality. It looks like they might drag a lot on the floor and get dirty and worn out quickly.

Love playful plaids for fall

I really like some of the plaids that I'm seeing in the fashion magazines. I particularly like the ones that are both traditional and playful. I'm talking about the funky plaid tights and colorful fun furs like these outfits from the D&G fall ready-to-wear collection.

I am both a business professor and an artist, so I feel that this look is really me, both traditional and funky at the same time!

My summer movie recommendations

I just noticed that USA Today newspaper has a big article today about this summer's movies. According to them, ticket sales were a record setting $4.2 billion. I'm not sure if this is for only the US or world wide.

I see a lot of movies, and have seen most of those that are out this summer and here are my comments about a few of them.

The best, in my opinion was Iron Man. I've never even seen the comic book character, but Robert Downey Jr. played him just right. He was the perfect combination of action, humor and sex appeal. I thought it was fresh and original, and I hope they make a sequal that's almost as good.

In second place, I would probably say to see the latest Batman story starring Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger. I think that this movie got extra attention due to Ledger's untimely death, but I think that the movie almost lived up to the hype. My only criticism was that it was kind of dark and depressing, without much humor.

My third place pick is probably Pineapple Express, the stoner comedy starring Seth Rogan. Although I have no interest in doing drugs, I laughed really hard at some of the jokes.

I also enjoyed Sex and the City, but I would not expect it to be a big award winner. Just a pleasant night out with the girls.

I enjoyed Tropic Thunder, but in my opinion it did not live up to the hype. The jokes where a bit stupid for my taste.

Anyway, if you are looking for something to see, I usually have an opinion.

Lumberjack style is big in England

According to the Style Scout, lumberjack cool is really in style in England. I saw a couple of his photos, and honestly, I don't get it. Usually I blog about stuff I like, but in this case I felt motivated to comment on a look that I don't like. If I tried this look I would probably look like an "uncool" lumberjack!

We actually have a local wood-chopping tournement here in Appalachia where I'm sure that there will be plenty of unstylish lumberjacks who are sporting this look! Any fashionistas interested in checking it out, let me know (just kidding).

Project Runway Week 5

This week's Project Runway was really good. The challenge was to design something very innovative using automobile parts. Most of the designers used seatbelts for at least part of the designs, and most of them rose to the challenge. LeeAnn won her first challenge with the dress pictured here. Keith was eliminated. I wasn't too sorry because his designs were not the great and his personality was a little immature and nasty.

Annie Briggs jackets at Etsy

Today I was looking at designs in the Fashion Derek site, and I saw these great jackets that are designed and made by Annie Briggs. Fashion Derek is a site where up-and-coming fashion designers can display their work. You can view and buy Annie Briggs jackets at her etcy shop at http://www.anniebriggs.etsy.com/. They all have great patterns and texture, and are very reasonable priced. I could hardly believe that most jackets are between $69 and $79!
